We woke up this morning at The Dorset Hotel, and had our breakfast in the little dining room downstairs, packed our bags and bikes, and wheeled them across to the road to Bark Off Bikes. As the shuttle bus bike racks were of the MTB type, and our front wheels have full fenders on them, we needed to remove them.
The shuttle from Derby to St. Helens.
A family of four from Canberra were riding the Blue Tier trail to St. Helens so we have our ride. Brody, our driver, dropped us at the IGA in the main street, at about 10:30, and it only cost us $120. Given we had the extra time now, we had a brunch at The Bays Kitchen of a bacon and egg sandwich panini with relish for me; a grilled vegetables panini with relish for Danielle.
We then changed into our riding gear at the toilets next to the RSL memorial, bought dinner and supplies from IGA and rode out to the Bay of Fires.
There were heaps of hills, and We quickly got over it of course. Riding in the heat up all the hills temporarily got the better of us. Touring isn’t all wineries and beautiful beaches! We arrived at Swimcart Beach and found a nice sheltered spot about 10 metres from the beach! It was lovely: blue water, very white sands and red algae boulders that give the Bay of Fires its name.
The Bay of Fires is just absolutely breathtaking in its beauty, natural white sands and deep blue sea.
I sight-fished for salmon, which I could see swimming along in the surf, and just had an awesome afternoon.
We cooked beetroot and quinoa veggie patties, Spanish chorizo and had Thai beef noodle salad for dinner. A nice gourmet dinner from the IGA delicatessen.
We watched a beautiful sunset on the beach and had such an awesome day. We hope to head off first thing tomorrow morning.
